Stay at home Mom

This week has been interesting.

I signed Silas up for Summer Camp this week. I did it several weeks ago, he picked the Snake week. He's been so excited.

Then I took him.

Its a daycare. A daycare, not a summer camp. I feel misled. (***Disclaimer: Its not that I think you are a bad parent if you send your kids to daycare. Not at all. I know that some have NO choice. I know that some daycares are awesome. I am a firm believer that we are individuals and God has given us different lives, opportunities and convictions.***)

Its made me SO thankful that we have been able to live on only Jody's income. I've been able to be at home, although some days its SO hard and I will need to come back and read this post! I want to be the primary influence in my kids lives. I want them to see that we value them and think they are special. I want them to learn self-control, people skills, and tons of other things.

Silas has enjoyed going, but at the same time its been hard for him. He doesn't know the kids, so he says he's played alone mostly. Some kids have been kind of mean too. Sand was thrown in his face and I could still see the remnants when I picked him up. He did go to the zoo one day and swimming today. He likes the food too.

But its like he's left there to kind of fend for himself. There are so many kids and they are in a small space. I want him to see that I want to take care of him and his siblings.

Anyways. All this to say I take training at home very seriously. I am SO thankful God allowed me the opportunity to stay home. I hope I can continue to remember this!! And I am looking forward to next week, having Silas home again! We have really missed him.

One a totally other side note, tonight we met some other college friends, Chris and Jen Meaders and their little girl Hallie, for dinner. Jody was invited to speak to the youth at their church tonight. Jen is going in TOMORROW to have a C-section. She looked great. And I just can't believe she was so calm. I would panic if I knew tomorrow we are bringing a new family member into the world! Besides, I'm a procrastinator and I would have laundry and other random things to do.

Good Luck Jen and Chris!!

So, I want some stay-at-home mommy tips. I've thought about this several times lately. I just don't have a good example of someone to look up to and I'm clueless. I try, plus I work 2 days a week, but I still spend the majority of my time with my girls and need to know how to juggle things and I learn best by example. Maybe I'll post something on my blog and ask for suggestions...if you have any, I'd love to hear them. Even things like a daily schedule, craft ideas, how you teach your kids about God...I could go on and on...

I cannot believe you just posted this!! I was just about to write about the same thing, well being a stay at home mom, TODAY and didn't get around to it. That is too funny=)
I know you are a GREAT mom and I definitely look up to you and the way you and Jody are raising your beautiful children. Have fun with your Silas at home next week.

Awww, you're such a sweet mommy! I totally understand what you're saying about being the primary influence. That's why I keep hanging on, even when I have a really tough day of school with Sara. I know that I will always love her - no matter what - and I will NEVER give up on her. But, I couldn't always be so sure about another teacher... (And after saying that, ditto on your disclaimer...homeschooling is not for everyone)

Was that disclaimer for me? :) In my blog (stay tuned), you may find a nice post on teaching being the best job! :) Summers off, and home by 3:30! hee hee! No, Seriously...I am truly thankful for the 3 and a half years a had at home with Anna, and the 16 months home with J. Ross...

Loving summer with my kiddos....
talk to you soon...

I have never been able to stay home, but I teach, which I think is the best mommy job because you get to be a stay at home "summer" mommy! :) We adopted our daughter when she was in kindergarten, so I don't know what I would have done by myself all day long while she was in school anyway. :) I am sorry the camp wasn't what you thought it was --- poor Silas! I am glad he had some fun activities though. I taught in a daycare in college and hate the "fend for yourself" mentality that a lot of them have.

Emily...How did you get that cool template on your blog? I am still working on mine. You can link a slideshow to flickr, and I have spent maybe hours trying to do this, to know avail (Sp?) Do you know anything about this?
